Viewlet
Technology
Viewlets
are compact, animated movie files that demonstrate
step-by-step instructions and vivid product demonstrations.
They play in any web browser, on any platform without
the need for plug-ins and allow the customer to
watch fully animated demonstrations of virtually
any task or function that they might need to learn
to perform on their own PC.
Viewlets
may be launched via a single mouse click from any
web page, using buttons such as that shown below:
Being fully animated, users can watch cursor movements,
mouse clicks and other operations just as if a support
technician were sitting at their PC with them. On
screen text comments and memo-boxes provide an ongoing
commentary and description of the function or software
being demonstrated. Audio voice-overs may also be
added which are heard through a PC speakers whilst
the Viewlet is running.
The
playback of Viewlets may be controlled via "video-buttons"
which allow "pause / resume", "start / end" and
"forward / back" functions. If the subject of a
Viewlet is potentially large and might otherwise
result in a lengthy demonstration, it is possible
to present a series of Viewlets which are related
by subject.

Learning
Link
Technology has been involved in the creation and
development of viewlets for a number of organisations
and communities. Using the technology described
above Link has been able to simplify and aid IT
training and support systems. The self running viewlets
are ideal for teaching any PC based process from
starting a piece of software to creating an MS Excel
macro. Typically Link has developed Internet training
viewlets for:
