This is achieved by a powerful Content Based Routing engine, that delivers true content protection via a ‘white list’ of approved URLs. This means that children can only access those sites and content, deemed appropriate by the Crayon Crawler administrator or the parent. Restricting children to the Crayon Crawler browser environment, preventing them from accessing information residing directly on the PC also provides added protection. Crayon Crawler offers tailored e-mail and chat options, ensuring that no unacceptable language, content or subscriptions can be presented to the child.

The Installation of Crayon Crawler does not restrict use of other Internet browsers, unless Crayon Crawler is loaded and running at the time. This enables parents to use the same PC to access the wider Internet.

In addition to providing a protected community for children, Crayon Crawler provides a powerful vehicle for child focused sponsorship and advertising. Advertising panels are provided within the browser and can be configured to display any approved advertising message or link through to an approved commercial web site. Alternately these panels can also be used to link directly to other educational content.

When Crayon Crawler is first installed, registration of all users, both the parent and child, are required. This ensures that community membership details are maintained and allows content specific advertising and sponsorship to be directed at target child groups.
